Home sales fall in December

Nationwide, sales of existing homes dropped 2.2 percent last month to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 4.89 million units, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Sales for all of 2007 totaled more than 5.6 million units, down 12.8 percent from the year prior. Despite the slide, 2007 marked the fifth highest year for sales on record, the association reported.
The median existing home price — where half cost more and half cost less — was $218,900 for the year, a 1.4 percent drop from 2006.
